We had an awesome time reading to the children at Kindy. What super star readers our class was and what lovely listeners the Kindy children were.

Everyday the delightful room 14 children come over and teach us Early Words, we think they rock. We are enjoying the challenge of learning new words daily. What is Early Words? The Early Words programme teaches children at their level, one to one, in short daily fun lessons where not only a basic sight vocabulary is learnt, but children learn how to learn.
We had an awesome session at Pukekos teaching their 4 year olds some basic reading skills. After lunch we like to relax to relaxation music to calm us down and get us ready for the afternoon. We take this time to practice relaxation exercises on a daily basis so we can have a general feeling of relaxation and increased well being that benefits every area of life. When you feel relaxed and at ease, you feel more in control which leads to calm, realistic responses.
‘We can all be Teachers.’Our delightful 5 year olds are very enthusiastic about going into the preschool centres and becoming the teachers for the 4 year olds. They will be bringing a little reader along to teach their buddy and will focus on early reading skills. They will be sharing the learning intention and success criteria to their buddy before reading.
Learning Intentions and Success Criteria help children understand what they are learning and what success will look like. Learning Intentions and Success Criteria are determined around children's learning, next learning step and goals. Values at Parawai School (our RECIPE for success) which are encouraged, modelled and explored are.. Respect - look after our relationships with ourselves, others and our world. Emotional Intelligence - be thoughtful about ourselves and others Co – operation - learn and play together Integrity - do the right thing by ourselves and others Perseverance - work hard and give our all Excellence - be and do the best we can Our Children will be developing and demonstrating our school values at these sessions as the Teachers. We look forward to sharing our sessions on here! We are learning to:
Point to each word as we read. Look for meaning in pictures. Expect the pictures to match the text. Notice when the same word is used again. Recognise that word the next time we see it. Link some sounds we see with ones we know. Re-tell the story. Our Success Criteria Using our finger to point. I will move my finger every time I say something. I can tell the same words are repeated. I can remember some words I see lots. I can say other words that start with that sound. I can say what is happening in the story. |
